Introduction
Latest Quakes is an app that displays recent earthquake activity around the world using publicly available seismic data. This Privacy Policy describes what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
Local App Data
The following data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers:
- Your filter and display preferences (magnitude range, time range, units)
- Saved or favorited regions
- Notification preferences
- Whether you have purchased the ad-free upgrade
Location Data
If you grant location permission, the app uses your approximate location to show earthquakes near you and to compute distance from quake epicenters. Location is used on-device and is not transmitted to or stored on our servers. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings; the app remains usable without it.
Advertising Data
If ads are enabled, our advertising partner (Google AdMob) may collect information as described in its own privacy policy, including advertising identifiers, approximate location derived from IP address, and limited device information used for ad delivery, frequency capping, and fraud prevention.
Purchase Data
In-app purchases (such as "Remove Ads") are processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details. We only receive a confirmation that the purchase is valid so we can unlock the corresponding feature on your device.
How We Use Your Information
- Display recent earthquakes and surface those most relevant to your area
- Persist your filters, units, and saved regions between sessions
- Send optional push notifications for significant earthquakes you have opted in to
- Deliver relevant ads through AdMob (unless you have purchased the ad-free upgrade)
- Validate in-app purchases and unlock the ad-free experience
- Diagnose crashes and improve app stability
What We Do Not Collect
- No email address, phone number, or real name
- No precise location data on our servers
- No contacts, photos, or other device content
- No account registration is required to use the app
Third-Party Services
Earthquake Data Sources
Earthquake data is fetched from public seismic data providers such as the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). Requests to these providers include standard network information (such as your IP address) but no personal data from the app.
Map Tiles
Map views may load tiles from a third-party map provider. Loading map tiles necessarily transmits your IP address and the area you are viewing to that provider, governed by their own privacy policy.
Google AdMob
We use Google AdMob to display banner, interstitial, and rewarded ads in the free version of the app. AdMob's handling of your data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Apple App Store / Google Play
In-app purchases, push notifications, and app distribution are handled by Apple and Google. Their respective privacy policies apply to any data they collect during those transactions.
Advertising Choices
- On iOS, you can limit ad tracking via Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking
- On Android, you can reset or opt out of personalized ads via Settings → Google → Ads
- EU/UK users will be shown a consent prompt for personalized ads where required
- You can purchase the "Remove Ads" upgrade to remove banner and interstitial ads entirely
Children's Privacy
Latest Quakes is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
Data Retention
Local app data remains on your device until you clear the app's storage or uninstall the app. Data held by third parties (AdMob, Apple, Google, map and earthquake data providers) is retained according to their own policies.
Your Rights
- Clear your local app data by uninstalling the app
- Restore a previous "Remove Ads" purchase on a new device via your App Store / Google Play account
- Adjust location, notification, and advertising preferences through your device settings
- Request information about data we hold by contacting us
